This course provides an overview of Passive Optical Networks, design and construction. It reviews all the associated components and looks at some typical installations where a PON makes economic sense over a traditional LAN. This includes creating an example Bill of Materials that can be used as a check list against a real project.

Audience:

This course is for anyone involved in PON networks from sales engineers through to consultants. It looks at the design structure of Passive Optical Networks and discusses the technology and explores the potential markets where it will provide the greatest benefits not only in cost saving but also in practicality.

Pre-requisite experience:

The ideal pre-requisite for this course, should you not be very familiar with fiber optics is the CommScope course SP4400 - Enterprise Fiber Solutions. If you anticipate that much of your work will include outdoor networks, the SP4410 – Outside Plant Fiber Design & Engineering course is highly recommended as well.
