This course helps to ensure the correct use of the field test equipment required for the verification of both copper and fiber cabling systems. It discusses equipment options, correct set-up of testers, how and what to test, analysis of results so the faults can be identified and corrected as well as the relevant standards for testing, inspection and documentation.
This course is for anyone interested in learning more about testing copper and fiber optic cabling installations. The installations include local area networks, copper twisted pair cabling and internal and external fiber links. The course looks at the most common field testers available for both copper and fiber media and discusses how to test successfully, what to test and the best methods of testing and troubleshooting.
This course is an ideal follow-up for students who have completed the ACT I Installing Premises Cabling course [SP3801], but this is not mandatory.
You will study this course online in a self-paced format. The course is made up of a number of webcast lessons and online multiple choice assessments giving immediate feedback. It is highly recommended that the student augment their learning with real-world design and installation experience, preferably with the help of experienced colleagues or mentors.
Any level of pass in the accumulative overall assessment score.
If you are going to be involved in commissioning installation projects, and also ongoing maintenance then you will need to understand test procedures and be able to competently analyze the results that are produced. This course assumes that you have an interest in fiber optic or copper cabling and the testing, specification, and termination of cabling in or between buildings, then this course is for you.
