Antenna Coverage & Capacity Solutions [SP6920]

This course has now been retired and is not available for booking.

Alternative courses can be found in our course catalog.

‚ÄčThis course looks at the way that consumers are changing usage of wireless networks, the impact this is making on available bandwidth, and how this capacity needs to increase to meet that demand. One of the areas covered to achieve this demand is better utilization of sites and antennas. Because many sites are used by several operators, antennas need to be fine-tuned and multi sector antennas achieve this.

Estimated study time: 4 hours

Webcast duration: 1h:45m

The webcasts for this course are available in the following languages:

Chinese Danish Dutch Finnish French German Hungarian Italian Japanese Korean Portuguese Russian Spanish Swedish Turkish

plus additional languages available for asssessments.

This course is suitable for installers, design engineers, project managers, field engineers and anyone who works directly or indirectly with a wide area wireless communications system.

Pre-requisite experience:

There is no pre-requisite experience required for this course however, SP6000 RF Fundamentals will provide you with a sound understanding of RF theory if you do not have any exposure to these wide area communications networks and antenna. SP6910 Antenna theory and SP6104 Remote Controlled Antenna would also be useful additional knowledge.

  • Learn about the changing usage of wireless networks
  • Understanding how we need to address these issues
  • Look at new and emerging technologies that will benefit us in the future
  • Understand how we can fine tune our equipment
  • Learn about sector load balancing
  • Introduce scheduling of sector changes
  • Discussing (RET) Remote Electrical Tilt of antennas and how we can use our existing RF coaxial cables to control them
  • Looking at Multi Beam antennas with the different planes of adjustment
  • Discovering how ANMS Software can help

Key Topics:

  • Teletilt Agile Systems - This lesson introduces the need for and concept of tilting antennas. The benefits of electrical tilting will be described showing graphically how they work in practice together with the choice of components and the standards involved.
  • MIMO, Adaptive Array and Multi Beam Antennas - This lesson looks at how these antennas can alleviate site congestion and increase network capacity. It also looks at 'cells' and discusses further the technical aspects and advantages of MIMO technology.
  • Active Antennas and FTTA (Fiber to the Antenna) - Technological advances are being made all the time and this lesson discusses some of these including using more active components nearer to the antenna.

How will I learn?
